Today's blog post is very much a free write so I'm sorry in advance if some of my thoughts don't make sense. When I sat down to write a wedding-related post for today, I had an entirely different vision of what this post would look like (ie: wedding gift guide for everyone). But when I found that I was struggling SO HARD to write anything at all, I knew that I was being called to share something different.Read More
Justin and I had been online acquaintances for I would say three or four months that first day I drove to Grant Turnaround at the United States Military Academy to pick him up one evening. It was a drab, March evening and I was really anxious. It was a Friday and I had just sped home from work and back to change my clothes for our "date". I say "date" because I honestly had no idea at the time whether or not it was a date. Meeting up with someone I had met online, let alone a guy isn't something I had ever done before. I remember my heart pounding as I pulled into the turnaround, nothing but granite and concrete and gray surrounding me.Read More
Y'all I'm going to be completely honest, I am struggling this week. I don't know if it's just the fact that winter has been hitting us hard without any end in sight or I'm just in a place of burn out but writing anything for the blog this week has been a challenge. I apologize in advance that the content this week has been less than stellar, but I have a bunch of posts in the works that I'm really excited about so hopefully things will be better soon. I feel like I've let y'all down and that's the last thing I would want to do!Read More
The way Justin tells it, buying an engagement ring is one of the most stressful moments of his life. That's why I'm so happy to say that he's worked with me on today's post which is all about buying an engagement ring! More specifically, today we're going to be talking all about the lessons we learned when we had to replace my engagement ring after only a year!
Buying an engagement ring is one of those things where when it goes wrong, it seems to go really wrong and that's pretty much what happened to us. Having to replace my engagement ring left me heartbroken and while I ended up getting an "upgrade" it still doesn't take away from the fact that the ring Justin actually proposed with is now basically gone.
If you're planning on buying an engagement ring, definitely don't let the same mistakes we made happen to you! Here's a little advice from both of us on buying and replacing and engagement ring!Read More
Today’s post was highly requested from a couple of people and I apologize that I’m just now getting around to writing it. But today I’m going to be talking all about taking engagement photos! The engagement photo shoot is probably one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning leading up to your wedding. Justin and I loved ours so much that we actually did a second shoot!
Our photographer, Liza of Eliza Jane Photography is absolutely amazing and talented beyond words. Justin and I were so fortunate enough to be able to work with her twice AND book her for our wedding (she was the first thing we booked after we had a date). If you’re in the Hudson Valley/New York area I cannot recommend her enough. Not only is she an amazing photographer but she’s probably one of my absolutely most favorite people ever. So anyways, for today’s post I’m going to be sharing 5 tips for engagement photos that I learned from doing our two sessions and I’ll be sharing a few of our favorite engagement pictures!Read More
It took me forever to figure out what to write for this week’s post. At first, I started a wedding dress shopping post which became so long that I’ve had to break it into a series coming in October (get hyped!). Everything I started writing after that kind of seemed to flop. I’ve been writing about wedding’s on the blog since it launched back in June so coming up with fresh ideas can be a hassle. There’s a whole section below where you can find my most popular Wedding Planning posts if you’re interested! Anyways, I took to some of my favorite blogs for inspiration. Shout out to my girl Rachel at The Confused Millennial for inspiring this post with her very own reasons to have a long engagement.
Before Justin and I even got engaged, I knew that our engagement would be long. At West Point, cadets aren’t allowed to get married while they’re there so we would inevitably be waiting for graduation in order to get married. I think I had always pictured myself having a long engagement, around a year long, anyways but we will actually have been engaged over a year and a half by the time our wedding rolls around!
When you get engaged to someone in the military, people are very quick to judge. We had people who didn’t know anything about West Point asking if we were getting married in 6 months (shout out to the women before me who have done that, y’all are champs). What I didn’t expect, are the people who judged us for waiting so long to actually have our wedding. Granted, these people aren’t familiar with how West Point works, but still… why is it such a big deal to have a quick engagement? Anyways, I came up with a list of the pros and cons of having a long engagement to share with y’all today!Read More
