The Story Behind Everything on our Mantle

Our mantle is one of my favorite places in the entire house. I love the eclectic vibe it gives our living room as well as a peek into what Justin and I cherish. Since September and Fall are quickly approaching, I wanted to share the story behind everything on our mantle currently before I start switching things up for fall and the holiday season. I also wanted to share this because I know a lot of you are newlyweds like us or maybe moving in with your significant other for the first time or just decorating your first place. I know how tough it can be to decorate on a budget so I wanted to show that you don't have to spend a lot of money in order to decorate something like a mantle! There are only three items on our mantle that we purchased after moving to Georgia!

Entryway + Living Room Tour

I swear I did not intend for half of the blog posts this week to be home decor themed... I had something else entirely planned for today and it just didn't work out the way I wanted it to. Hello, writer's block. Anyways, you guys have been dying to see how we've been furnishing the house and after another failed attempt at finding throw pillows yesterday, I decided to go ahead and share our entryway and living room with you guys!

The Best Places to Shop for Furniture on a Newlywed Budget

Anyone who has ever furnished a home knows that it's not cheap. I mean the cost of rugs alone will break any newlywed's budget in an instant! But when the tough gets going, the tough spend long hours searching on the Internet for the best deals to stretch their money further. That's the way the saying goes, right? When Justin and I got married I knew we would be starting out with very minimal furniture. I had a bedroom set that I had purchased when I moved to New York but with two dogs and two people sleeping in it every night, we knew we wanted to upgrade to a king size bed (which is funny because now we've stopped letting the dogs sleep with us all together). Other than a few random desks and tables I had acquired over the years, we would be heading to Georgia with virtually no furniture.

Reader Recommended: Farmhouse Decorating Inspiration on Instagram

I move in like a month. Wow. Naturally, instead of thinking about packing, I'm procrastinating by dreaming of how I'm going to decorate our future home(s). It probably comes as no surprise that I, like many many others, am obsessed with the Farmhouse style of decorating. There is just something so simplistic and naturally homey feeling that makes the Farmhouse style decor so appealing to me. Maybe it's because I basically grew up in a "farmhouse" (though it didn't look anything like JoJo's version) but I can't wait to fill our home with everything quintessentially farmhouse style. So I took to Instagram and asked for recommendations on where to find the best farmhouse style inspiration on Instagram and boy, did y'all deliver!

How to Make Any Apartment Instantly Feel Like Home

If there’s a version of nesting that doesn’t involve you being pregnant, I’m experiencing it. I have lived in an apartment for the last 7 years, ever since I was a sophomore in college and basically just never put any effort into decorating them. Recently, however, I’ve found myself wanting to decorate the apartment more and make it really feel like a home. Mind you, I’ve lived in my current apartment for a year almost now and until a week ago, had yet to put anything on the walls.

In college, when I first started going to therapy, my therapist discovered that I have an issue with feeling like I have a home. Somewhere along the line, I stopped feeling like anything was actually “my home” in the traditional sense of the word. As backwards as it sounds, I think this is part of the reason I don’t make my apartments feel like home since apartments by nature are temporary. Anyways, if you’re feeling the same way, especially now that the Holiday season is upon us, here are a few things I’ve done recently to make my little apartment feel more like a home!
