It's (Unofficially) Birthday Month | 12 Things 3. 29. 2021
What better way to start the last year of my twenties than by starting my birthday celebrations a little early? While it may not technically be April yet, it’s close enough and I’m at the point in pregnancy where everything hurts and I’m always uncomfortable and I need a lot to look forward to. Ya feel me?
Anyways, while Alaska tries to decide which season we’re in, here’s 12 things for March 29, 2021.
1. This post on baby wearing was extremely eye opening for me. A lot of my motivation for wearing Jasper came from the fact that I knew it was a tradition that is popular among Inupiaq culture but I did not do a great job of acknowledging that or the real history of baby wearing.
2. Jasper turns two in like two weeks and I am not okay. I’ve gone into full party planning mom mode over here in the Chamblee house. There’s still not going to be much of a party (just us and another family) but considering Jasper’s Quarantine Birthday in 2020, I think this is a huge step up. I’m going all out on a vintage/Disney Pixar Cars theme for him since he’s obsessed with little cars right now. You can check out the vision board here!
3. I got rid of 90% of my clothing over the weekend. Blame it on the pregnancy hormones if you want but I had so many of you reach out to me on Instagram saying you felt the same way about your own wardrobes. I plan on sharing the journey of building my wardrobe from the ground up starting with some key staples and a postpartum capsule wardrobe. I’m excited to share this process with you and really build out my dream wardrobe over the next year.
4. I finally ordered curtains for Baby M’s nursery! If you’ve been wondering why I haven’t shared any nursery updates in awhile, it’s because finding cute curtains for the nursery that are blackout (because #alaska) and don’t cost a fortune and actually ship to us at an affordable price (looking at you Wayfair) has been a real challenge. But I managed to find two options (here and here) I’m hoping will work from Target’s revamped Pillowfort collection.
5. I shared Jasper’s Easter Basket over on my Instagram last week! I originally shared it on my Insta stories but figured an IGTV video was a better way for it to live on my profile than to clutter up the highlights on my profile so if you’re looking for last minute Easter basket inspiration or just want to see what I did for him, make sure to check that out! This is the most all out I’ve gone on a basket for him and I love how it turned out!
6. I’m officially kicking off my birthday month (a little early). With a new baby on the way I figured the only way I was going to make it through this last month of pregnancy was going to be to find a way to #TreatMyself every week. I’m starting a week early by getting an actual haircut at an actual salon and taking myself on a date. I can’t remember the last time I actually went to a nice salon for a haircut and other than my bangs, I don’t think I’ve actually gotten my haircut since the beginning of 2020. It’s much overdue and I can’t wait to chop it all off. Again, are we blaming the hormones for this or the pandemic?
7. I didn’t do much content creation last week. 12 things for last Monday was the only post I wrote even though I drafted a few others and I didn’t get around to uploading a YouTube video for the first time all month. I felt a little down about it by the end of the week but realized that there were days when my body just needed to rest and that’s okay. I’m hoping to get a lot more done this week.
8. Jasper’s speech has continued to take off this past week. I mentioned last week that he had started randomly mimicking animal sounds and he has started saying a few more words and phrases this week as well! While we were on his speech zoom session on Friday he shouted “GO!” The most clearly I have ever heard him say any word and it was such a proud moment for me. Dealing with his speech delay has been really emotional for me but I love seeing the different ways he’s improving. It’s not going to happen overnight but he’ll get there eventually. I plan on sharing more about our speech therapy journey in the coming weeks now that we’ve consistently been doing sessions weekly for three months.
10. I’ve been subscribed to the Girls Night In Newsletter for a few years now and I think I’ve mentioned it before but I have really been looking forward to their newsletters hitting my inbox recently. The Girls Night In newsletters are always filled with great article and recipe suggestions, book recommendations, hot takes on current events and trends, and so much more.
