6 Insanely Easy Healthy Habits You Can Start Today
I’ve always had body issues. At 4’11, it’s been difficult for me to come to terms with the way my body looks. I have huge hips (like all the women in my family) and am pretty curvy for someone so petite. But aside from what I’m working with naturally, I also don’t really do much to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Now, I’m the first person to admit that they don’t really even remotely live a healthy lifestyle. I drink way too much beer, eat far too many bowls of pasta, and exercise way less than I should. But this lifestyle has led me to become overly critical of my body. After I realized I was spending way too much time poking and over analyzing my body in the mirror (and freaking out about how I was going to look on my wedding day) I decided it was time for a change.
I know you hear all the time how “easy” it is to be “healthy” and to work out and get that “summer bikini body” you’ve always wanted. But your girl is here to tell you that it CAN be that easy! In today’s post, we’re going to talk about 6 EASY healthy habits you can start today right now! As always, I want this to be a positive place so remember that you should always focus on being healthy rather than being super skinny. I am also not a medical professional, just simply passing along things that I’ve changed in my lifestyle to become more health conscious!
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, we want to focus on those 6 healthy habits I mentioned. When it comes to change, most people can’t up and cold turkey their lifestyle change. I know I definitely couldn’t! I like Panera Mac and Cheese WAY too much for that. So you want to start out by forming smaller, more manageable habits. I think the saying goes something like, it takes 14 days to create a habit so finally, here are the 6 healthy habits I recommend for jumpstarting your healthy lifestyle!
Cut Back On or Eliminate Pop (Soda)
Y’all, I love an ice cold Diet Coke as much as the next person, but every time I even look at one it’s like a one way street to bloat town USA. What’s worse is the way I feel after drinking one. Too full to do pretty much anything. It’s been a month since I started my health journey and I’m happy to say that while I do drink the occasional Diet Coke, I don’t find myself as addicted to them as before. And I sure do feel SO MUCH better.
Drink More Water
Seriously guys, getting healthy does not get easier than just simply drinking more water! Remember when I said it really could be that simple? Treat yourself to a new jumbo water cup or awesome water bottle and start sipping! I make sure to fill my water up first thing in the morning, drinking a glass of water is literally the first thing I do now! Then I keep a bottle or cup with me throughout the day and refill as needed. Not only is drinking water just all around better for you than sugary beverages, but it will also help improve your skin. Who doesn’t want that?
Eat Out Less
Notice how I said eat out less and not stop eating out all together? Y’all, I love a good dinner out (can I get some Panera mac and cheese up in here?) but eating out a lot is just not plain good for you and can end up costing a fortune! Seriously, I was eating subway for lunch pretty much every day before I switched up my diet so think about this: $8 for a meal x 5 days a week is $40 a week for lunch out. To put in perspective how much money that is for you on a weekly basis, the last time I bought groceries I got groceries for the entire week (three meals a day) for $50. FOR THREE MEALS. Think about how much money you’re spending if you spend $5-$8 a meal three times a day, five times a week. Not only will you be saving yourself a ton of money, you’ll also feel better because you’ll be focusing on eating healthier things, like veggies.
Cut Out Sugar and Creamer
I’ve tried numerous times to give up coffee and I just can’t do it. I love coffee way too much to stop drinking it on the reg. So to make it a little bit healthier I decided that I would no longer get any type of sugar or dairy product in it. Seriously, y’all have not lived until you have had an iced coffee with coconut milk from Starbucks. My go to morning coffee of choice is a hazelnut coffee with almond milk!
Go for a Walk
Your girl was not built to be a runner or a gym freak, trust me. But did you know that walking burns more fat than running? Bless up! Seriously not only will walking for as little as 20 minutes every other day can make huge improvements to your mind and body and it’s such an easy change to make. Walk on your lunch break or treat your fur babies to a nice long walk in the evenings! And if you’re like me who does actually enjoy running even though you’re downright awful at it, running is also a great way to add some exercise into your routine (and it does wonders for anxiety as well).
Go to Bed Earlier
I’m going to let you in on a little secret: I go to bed at 9:30 on the dot every single night. Yep, you read that right. I also wake up an hour earlier than I probably need to during the workweek. Why? Because it helps me focus more during the day. I am terrible when I’m running on little sleep so every night I take an hour before bed to decompress from the phone and electronics and just relax in bed for a bit. Then I turn the lights out and hit the hay. I also wake up earlier than necessary because I like to spend time with a giant cup of water and my phone in the morning before I get ready. Not only will drinking water first thing in the morning set you off on the right foot but it also helps calm and reset your system!
So if you didn’t believe me that you can jumpstart a healthy lifestyle right immediately, how do you feel now? It really is that easy! Just starting simple with adding one of these healthy habits to your week will have you feeling energized, healthy, and ready to tackle more in no time!
