Is the Nugget Couch worth the hype? Nugget Comfort Review
When I first mentioned the idea of getting a Nugget Comfort couch to my husband, he was not on board. At $229 (plus extra for shipping to Alaska) he wasn’t crazy about the price tag. What eventually sold him was how the Nugget could grow with our son over the years and offer him hours of endless imaginative play options this winter. I knew getting one was a long shot but we settled on trying to get one for an early Christmas gift. So in August, when the most recent drop happened, I hopped on the website with bated breath and hoped my fingers and internet connection was fast enough to score one.
Luckily, we did! And by September, our Nugget in Rodeo arrived on our doorstep. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect because I had never seen a one in person so I figured since we’ve now had our first Nugget for over a year that I would put together a review and answer some of your Nugget comfort questions!
This review was originally written in 2020. We are still loving our Nugget and it is one of our most utilized household items for the entire family. We have a second child now (who is 7 months old) and are planning to purchase our second Nugget in the near future. The post has been updated to reflect any changes since we purchased our Nugget in 2020!

Tips for getting a Nugget couch:
The best way to get all of the latest information on how to purchase a Nugget is to follow Nugget Comfort (@nuggetcomfort) on Instagram and make sure you’re subscribed to receive their email newsletters. As of 2022, I believe Nugget has made getting your hands on a Nugget couch more accessible.
Nugget Couch First Impressions
You’re supposed to pull your Nugget couch out of the box as soon as you can so when FedEx dropped ours off Jasper and I wasted no time getting into it. I was a little concerned there would be issues based on the condition of the box it was shipped in but luckily ours was in perfect condition. The Nugget couch comes ready to play out of the box with covers already on! I was so happy about this because after living with a couch with a removable cover for the last three years I was dreading putting the cover on. After a few minutes, the cushions instantly took their shape with the exception of one corner that was a little slower to get back to its original shape than the rest of it. A month later, it’s fine but I was a little concerned at first about whether or not that was going to be permanent. We chose Rodeo for our Nugget partially because I liked the color and because I was hoping that not many people would go after that color right off the bat since it was a new, limited edition color. As soon as I got it out of the box I was instantly pleased with how the color looked in our space. We’ve had no issues with color transfer or anything like that coming from the cover. I was surprised by how stiff the foam is as I was expecting it to be softer but once you start to work with the cushions and build with it you realize that the foam is perfect for jumping and building and retaining its shape.
I was actually pretty nervous about whether or not Jasper would even care about the Nugget couch but to my surprise he took to it instantly, running back and forth over the pieces as they expanded. Our Nugget couch has become part of our routine these days and I’m so glad we decided to get one. My husband tends to build something for Jasper to play on in the mornings since he gets up and leaves before the rest of us.
Is the Nugget couch worth the price?
I know there are a few options for a Nugget couch alternative out there but I do believe that the Nugget couch is worth the price. The endless play and use options of the Nugget were definitely something we highly considered when we were debating on whether or not getting a Nugget couch was right for our family and we haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of Nugget couch build ideas yet. I am confident that as Jasper continues to grow and learn that we will be able to come up with hundreds if not thousands of new ways to use our Nugget couch. It also doubles as extra seating for him in our living room and I think that’s part of what he currently enjoys the most about it.
Favorite Nugget couch configuration?
Like I said, we haven’t even begun to scratch the surface on how many different ways you can configure a Nugget couch but currently one of our favorite ways is creating slides for Jasper. Most of the time he just runs up them or into them and doesn’t actually use it as a slide but it helps to get his energy out when it’s too cold to go outside. I have created an entire Pinterest board to fill with Nugget couch ideas and there is a great Facebook group you can join for even more Nugget couch inspiration and ideas.
Does the Nugget couch clean well?
If you have kids of any age then you know how critical it is to be able to clean something they’re using. One of the biggest selling points for the Nugget couch for us was the ability to remove and wash the Nugget couch covers and to buy additional Nugget couch covers to have on hand. Right now I wash our Nugget couch about once a week just between the regular daily use of Jasper and the traffic from our animals (we try to keep them off of it to the best of our abilities but anyone with pets knows that’s easier said than done). I was so impressed by how well the Nugget couch washes. Simply toss it in your washer with clear detergent and you’re good to go. The Nugget couch does need to be air-dried but I found that it didn’t take that long for the pieces of the cover to dry. Additionally, removing the covers and getting them back on is pretty much painless.
Can you store a Nugget couch?
Per the Nugget Comfort website:
“The Nugget is 33" deep and 66" long in its standard configuration. The seat is 8.75" above the ground, and it's 22.25" high to the top of the pillows in the standard configuration. The Nugget is designed to fit just as well in nooks and crannies as it does in big open rooms.
The Nugget box measures 15" x 15" x 34."”
The Nugget couch is easily folded up and put away for storage though most people seem to leave it there as a permanent fixture in the room like we do. You should easily be able to fit a Nugget couch in a standard size closet for storage if you don’t want to leave it out when not in use. When not put away, our Nugget usually looks like one of these two configurations:
How does the Nugget couch fold up?
The Nugget couch triangle pillows do not fold up but the other two pieces, the base, and the cushion do! Both the base and a cushion are made up of two separate pieces of foam attached by the cover allowing for a seamless folding experience. When the pieces are folded there is a handle on each for easy moving and carrying. Jasper can even push them around to a certain extent!
Are Nugget couches only for kids?
If you join the Nugget Facebook group I mentioned earlier or even just hop over to the Nugget couch Reddit you’ll find that many people love their Nugget couches just as much as their kids do.

Is the hassle of getting a Nugget couch worth it?
The hype around the Nugget couch is… a little absurd. After all, it is just some foam, right? But Nugget has gone above and beyond in my opinion to provide a quality item that will last for years and years and grow with your children. While a Nugget couch is hard to come by these days they are not impossible to get! Plus, with the new Nugget comfort factory opening up I believe they will be easier to score moving forward. I definitely think they’re worth the wait to get and to receive once you’ve successfully purchased one. But if you’re on the fence I highly suggest joining one of the Facebook groups I mentioned or looking for Nugget couch on Instagram and Pinterest for more ideas of how everyday families utilize their Nuggets.
What is the Nugget couch durability like?
We have had our Nugget couch for over a year now so this is a question I will continue to come back to and update over the next few years and beyond (so save this for later!) but after a year of use and regular washes, I can say that the durability so far is very high. Our Nugget is constantly being jumped on, stood on, ran across, used as a table for meals, covered in baby spit-up, etc., and continues to hold its shape beautifully. I also haven’t noticed any sort of wear or color loss on the covers yet. We only have one set of covers!
How do you use a Nugget couch?
Right now we pretty much set up different obstacle courses or climbing gyms for Jasper to explore but he’s also just as happy to run across it if there’s a few “levels” in how it’s folded out. As he gets older and as winter progresses here I envision many blanket forts and castles and ships happening as his imagination grows. He’s currently obsessed with horses and loves to straddle the triangle pillows as if he’s riding one. Definitely check out Instagram and Pinterest for more Nugget couch build ideas and inspiration!
