Master Bedroom Inspiration
I think one of the hardest parts of military life is military housing. Trying to turn a military house into a home at each duty station is basically an art form for military spouses. While I’ve put a lot of effort into other rooms around our current house at Fort Wainwright, our master bedroom is a place that does not spark joy for me. With Justin deploying I knew I would want a fun and creative project (aside from content creation) that I could work on while he was away. So today I am excited to officially kick off the master bedroom makeover with you guys!
I thought it would be fun to start out by sharing my master bedroom inspiration and the designs I would ultimately like our master bedroom to incorporate. If you’re planning on redoing your master bedroom soon or maybe moving into your first place together, I hope this post and my journey to redo our master bedroom helps you to get inspiration for your own master bedroom.
Master Bedroom Makeover Budget
The first thing my husband and I did when we started talking about this project was to set a budget. I want to be completely transparent with you guys through this process because I don’t want it to look like we’re made of money (because we aren’t) or that I’m just spending a ton of money on this project for no reason. We decided on a budget of around $1,000 for the entire project. My goal is going to be to ideally spend a lot less than that but it’s nice to know I have a good budget to work with.
One of the challenges of this master bedroom makeover is going to be that I live in Alaska. My location drastically limits the places I can shop in-store, the places that will actually ship to Alaska, and my budget because I will have to account for things like price inflation and shipping. I am hoping to not have to buy too much furniture for our master bedroom because that will save a good portion of our budget and most of our bedroom items are still in really great condition. I would also like to thrift as much as possible for this master bedroom project.
Master Bedroom Makeover Inspiration
Decorating the rest of our house has helped me to better understand the design style we tend to gravitate towards. My husband prefers industrial modern looks while I go for more of an eclectic, 1940s, boho style. The goal is going to be to incorporate all of these elements into our master bedroom. We already have a few of those industrial modern elements in our curtain rod and the pulls on our nightstands and dressers. Trying to take this big blank canvas of a bedroom and making it that cozy eclectic style that I love is definitely going to be a challenge.
One of the hardest parts of this master bedroom makeover is the layout of our bedroom itself. I’ve already started by rearranging the furniture and pulling in a dresser which I think has definitely helped. I think that really defining different spaces throughout the room will help to make it feel cozier. I took to Pinterest to help find ideas of the type of elements I would really want to incorporate into our master bedroom makeover.
So far we love:
Embroidered pillowcases
Lots of plants
Playing with patterns and textures
Rich colors
Warmer toned woods
Headboard/Bedframe (?)
I would love to get a new bed for the bedroom but my husband really likes the one we already have. So I think it’ll probably stay. If you’ve seen either of our previous master bedroom posts, then you know what our headboard looks like already.
DIY Embroidered Pillow Cases
I don’t know how to embroider things. I used to when I was younger with the help of my mom. I’ve done some pillowcases in the past using patterns. I would love to find one or make my own and do these pillowcases myself but I may just end up buying some. If I could find a few that are thrifted that would also be amazing!
Adding a TV to the Master (?)
What are your thoughts on having a TV in your master bedroom? Jasper will probably be sleeping in my room while my husband is gone so I figured it might be nice to have one? I’m also not sure it’s 100% necessary and may just settle for a record player which can double as decor.
Anyways, that’s what I’ve got as far as plans go for our master bedroom makeover. I’m excited to start working on it and take you guys through the entire process! Let me know your thoughts and ideas below!
