Memories from West Point
When Justin and I first met, he was in his second semester at West Point. Honestly, graduation didn't even cross my mind at the time, other than to remind me that it was nearly four years away at that point. As we were driving past West Point on Sunday, Justin said, "I honestly didn't ever think I would get to this point."
It's so funny how we spend our time wishing and waiting for certain things. Graduation, wedding day, birthdays, etc. And then they come and BAM! They're gone in the blink of an eye. That's how I feel about the last three years. Today we're halfway through grad week at West Point already and I find myself grasping for memories to hold on to.
That's why I wanted to write this "Memories from West Point" post. I'm a firm believer that West Point, as an experience, is going to be what you make of it. If you only focus on the bad times, the hard time, then you're not going to enjoy it. I would like to think that Justin and I took everything West Point threw at us and ran with it. We lived, we loved, we made amazing memories and friendships that will transcend time, states, even continents.
Here's a look back at some of my favorite memories from West Point.
100th Night
100th Night was interesting because New York decided to grace us with a blizzard towards the end of the 100th Night show. I remember Justin and I taking the long way home and just praying we didn’t run off the road. We made it home safely and the next day we headed into NYC for the rest of the weekend. We made so many good memories from that weekend, it was definitely one of my favorite events.
Friendships
We have been blessed with probably the most amazing group of gals and guys that anyone could ask for in this experience. From Labor Day Weekend trips to Cape Cod to Army/Navy games, these girls have been there with me through the good, the bad, and the ugly. When you come into a West Point relationship after BEAST, it can be a little intimidating and I’m so glad I found my tribe when I did.
USMA Post Night 2018
Another one of my all time favorite memories from West Point has got to be Post Night. Throughout the years, Justin and I would dream and dream about the places we would go. Post Night is one of those days that seems to drag on forever and then is gone in the blink of an eye. It’s nerve wracking and exciting and there really is nothing else like it. We are so thrilled to be able to share our love for Alaska with all of you so definitely make sure you’re subscribed to the vlog channel for that move!
USMA 2018 Ring Weekend
I think this has got to be one of the best photos of Justin and I we’ve ever taken that wasn’t by our engagement photographer. Every time I look at this photo and think of Ring Weekend, I can’t help but smile. Ring Weekend is the kick off to Firstie Year, the final year. There is all kinds of excitement and you get such a sense of “This is my year”. I would actually equate it to how you feel as a Senior in high school walking in on the first day like you run the place.
Army Beating Navy
When Army beat Navy for the first time in 14 years in 2016, I honestly think we were all in shock. Words can’t describe how much being there to witness that moment meant to me. I’m so happy I even vlogged the entire thing because you can see that our reactions are priceless! I don’t like to pick favorites but out of all the memories, this one is at the top of the list.
Army Beating Navy Again
Watching Army beat Navy a second time and bring the Commander in Chief’s trophy home in 2017 was definitely a highlight too.
Getting Engaged
While Justin and I didn’t technically get engaged at West Point, we owe our entire relationship to West Point. It’s hard not to mention something like this in a post about my favorite memories because West Point has given us so much over the last four years.
500th Night
500th Night was the last class even that included a HOP or a dance after the banquet. The Hops kind of get a bad rep for being lame but I'll always have a soft place in my heart for them. Our 500th Night vlog is also one of our most popular video and the clip of Justin dancing in our intro is from 500th Night so it’s hard not to have this up there as a favorite memory.
Until next time, Y'all
